Karine’s Rebrand: From Party Spokesperson to Political “Independent”
Let’s not sugarcoat it—Karine Jean-Pierre wasn’t just a press secretary. She was a shield, a filter, a mouthpiece. Her job was to deflect, distract, and deny. And she did it with remarkable consistency.
Now she claims she was watching betrayal unfold within the administration the whole time. Not betrayal of voters. Not betrayal of truth. Betrayal of Joe Biden—a man she insists was “as sharp as ever,” even after the now-infamous debate stumble in June 2024 that had America wondering who was actually running the country.
In the weeks leading up to the disastrous debate performance exposing his cognitive decline on the world stage, Biden went viral on multiple occasions in videos his critics said showed him losing his faculties.
The first was of him appearing completely frozen while others danced around him at Juneteenth celebration at the White House.
The second was of him appearing to wander off at the G-7 Summit away from other world leaders while trying to engage with paratroopers, only to be corralled by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The third was Biden’s freezing moment at an L.A. fundraiser which showed former President Barack Obama escorting him offstage.
It wasn’t until the latter that the Biden White House latched onto the term “cheap fakes” to describe the viral videos they said were misleading and peddled by right-wing foes of the then-presumptive Democratic nominee.
“I think you have all called this the ‘cheap fakes’ video. And that’s exactly what they are,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at a press briefing last June. “They’re done in bad faith.”

Back when she was the face of Biden’s spin machine, Karine Jean-Pierre accused conservative media of spreading so-called “cheapfakes”—selectively edited clips meant to make Biden appear cognitively impaired. She called it a coordinated smear campaign. Most Americans just called it footage.

The DEI Jake Tapper?
Karine isn’t the first former insider trying to salvage her legacy in hardcover. Just ask Jake Tapper, whose book Original Sin blames Biden’s handlers for covering up the President’s decline, while conveniently skipping over how he parroted their talking points for years.
Karine’s version? Flip the script. Instead of admitting Biden slipped, she doubles down: he was fine, sharp, lucid. It was his team that let him down. If Tapper is trying to look like the last honest man in media, Karine’s auditioning for the role of “misunderstood DEI heroine.”
But Axios sources from the White House paint a different picture. Former aides describe her as combative, insecure, and quick to melt down if a media question wasn’t pre-approved. She allegedly even tried to push John Kirby out of the spotlight because he was too good at the job.
