Democrats Graham Platner nazi

The Party That Sees Nazis Everywhere Just Nominated One

True, factual statement: Democrats are Nazis. Maine voters just sent Graham Platner to the midterms as their representative. Oh, and let us not forget he’s also a misogynist. So we can safely say Graham Platner is a woman-hating Nazi. That is not hyperbole. Those are facts from his own background.

For years, Democrats have warned Americans that Nazis are lurking around every corner. Hell, they tell us that we have a Nazi in the White House right now. They’ve called Donald Trump a Nazi.

If you listen long enough, you start to get the impression that half the country is one Facebook comment away from joining a torch march.

Well, that may be true now that Democrats have put forth an actual Nazi in Graham Platner from Maine to represent their party.

Democrats have spent the better part of a decade establishing a very clear standard for everyone else. Certain symbols, associations, and beliefs were supposedly beyond the pale. We were told some things should immediately disqualify a candidate from public office.

Then one of their own won a primary anyway.

The Problem With Calling Everyone A Nazi

One of the unintended consequences of spending years calling your political opponents Nazis is that eventually nobody knows what the word means anymore.

Democrats have spent the better part of a decade comparing Donald Trump to Hitler. They’ve called Republican voters fascists. They’ve accused conservatives of threatening democracy, embracing authoritarianism, and harboring Nazi sympathies.

At some point, the accusation became so common that it lost much of its impact.

Then along came Graham Platner.

Now Democrats find themselves in the awkward position of explaining why voters should take their warnings seriously while simultaneously asking everyone to ignore the fact that one of their own candidates carries baggage that would have sparked a national media meltdown had he been a Republican.

The result is a political version of the boy who cried wolf. When everything is Nazi, eventually nothing is Nazi.

Then when an actual controversy involving Nazi imagery arrives, the public has no idea whether this is supposed to be another five-alarm emergency or just another Tuesday in American politics.

Democrats created that problem for themselves. After years of seeing Nazis everywhere, they finally found one and handed him a nomination.

The Platner Problem

What makes Graham Platner interesting is that he creates a problem Democrats made for themselves.

If everybody is a Nazi, then nobody is. If every political disagreement is fascism, then actual examples lose their ability to shock people. That is exactly what happened here.

Democrats spent years convincing Americans that the threat was everywhere. Then one of their own candidates arrived carrying baggage that would have generated nationwide outrage if he had an “R” beside his name, and Democratic voters nominated him anyway.

The result is not a Republican problem; it’s a credibility problem for the Democrats.

Apparently Not A Deal Breaker

For years, Democrats told us that certain things should automatically disqualify a candidate from public office. Then they nominated Graham Platner anyway.

The good news is that Democrats have finally answered a question they spent years asking everyone else. What happens when a candidate carries baggage involving Nazi imagery and accusations of misogyny?

Apparently, if he has the right party affiliation, it is not a deal breaker.

Now we know.
